the more i think about it the more i think about it so i just have to drown it out and draw it out like poison so let the beats move freely through my shoulders to my cervix, i will map out a song like an island in my head, i will soak up an ocean of chords so when i see you i can smile freely, so could be like i would be if i didn't feel the way i did, and i just hate the way hearts mess things up hearts mess things up so badly so sshhh now darling listen to the bass in your head let the melody shred you into static let the beat break you into nothing let the sound draw out the poison you've created by thinking too much now stop thinking

running fingers through coffee-silk hair, i admire the weight of your lips, the outline of your skull etched somewhere behind the skin, the curve of your sun-skimmed neck. light hides in the soft jut of your jawbone. in the indents of your knuckled fingers, in the dip between your hipbones. beautifully corded, traceable muscles are tucked away beneath your skin. if my fingers ghost just so, i can glimpse the story beneath. i still haven't decided on the color of your eyes. (i could never capture you whole in a sentence thus is the disadvantage of a sketch in words.)

I remember when you hovered over me and time froze for a second and I could see the roots of you, tumbling past your wings into the cosmic wind, and the irises of your hazel eyes expanded into a million branches and your arms and legs made a fortress of bone and branch around me. Your exhalations switched to oxygen and finally, finally I could get close to you and not suffocate. I watched your soul unfold in that pocket of time created by our symmetry. You were not infinite, and neither was I. We were not any different before or after, save the memories to be tucked away. The next time I took a breath I choked slightly on your carbon dioxide

Today, for the first time, I thought about talking to you again. I was watching TV and someone said son-ova-bitch just like you with the same inflection you use and I thought about how wonderful it was to talk to you once a week back before I was your star crossed lover. I thought about how much it hurts to be the one left out of things to have a creeping suspicion that you degrade women just as much as you have always been accused of.
